Catholic Hipster Handbook Preview: St. Hildegard

I promised you all that The Catholic Hipster Handbook was going to bring you some top notch saints that you may not have heard of before, and today I'm going to share one who was included in Melissa Keating's section on discovering music outside of the mainstream.

Amidst Melissa's thoughts on music, both Christian and secular, she introduces us to this pretty incredible saint:

St. Hildegard of Bingen was a German Benedictine abbess, writer, composer, philosopher, Christian mystic, visionary, and polymath (look that one up!). She is considered to be the founder of scientific natural history in Germany, and her music continues to be popular down to this very day.

If you want to learn more about the unknown bands who make up the soundtrack to the Catholic Hipster life, and all the amazing saints you've never heard of before, you're going to have to buy the book and dig in!

Until then, St. Hildegard of Bignen, pray for us!
