Why Does Everything Have To Be Something Else?

I'm usual.

It seems as though, these days, everything has to be something else.

And it's driving me nuts!

Every song at Mass (especially during Advent) has to be based on another song. Have you noticed this at your parish? We're singing "Hosanna in the Highest" to the tune of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" as a way of celebrating Advent?

Are you kidding me?

Why can't it just be what it is?

Every blog post about our faith has to be tied into something in the secular world. How about that one? "Using Scripture as Your Google Maps," "St. Augustine was the Drake of his day," "What iTunes Can Teach Us About Trusting Jesus"...

It goes on and on and on, and it shows no signs of letting up.

Maybe together, we can stop this.

Maybe we can start working toward a world where we're content with our faith without having to compare it to some technology we carry around in our pockets.

What if God's grace isn't like the Reminder App, helping us to stay on course? What if God's grace is just God's grace, and that's amazing enough in and of itself?

Rant done. Please feel free to resume your regularly scheduled programming.
