#CatholicHipsterDebate: Dormition vs. No Dormition

Welcome to the latest edition of the #CatholicHipsterDebate!

Today we're talking about the Dormition of Mary!!

We know for a fact that the Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed bodily into heaven. What we don't know for certain, however, was if she died prior to the assumption or not.

The Church allows Catholics to hold differing views on this, either seeing Mary's Dormition as a sign that she chose to die in order to be more perfectly conformed to her son, or seeing Mary being assumed into heaven and preserved from death as a sign of her being the most perfect of all created beings.

I tend to lean toward the Dormition, but how about you?

Take to Twitter with the hashtag #CatholicHipsterDebate, and let's chat it up!

  1. The earliest traditions tell the story of the Dormition, so that's what I go with. :)
