Obscure Saint of the Day: St. Hugh the Great

Happy Wednesday, party people.

Today is the feast of St. Hugh the Great!

Hugh was a Benedictine Abbott who would come to be known as one of the most influential men of his era.

Born in France, ordained at twenty, and appointed abbott at twenty-five, Hugh is known for attending the Council of Reims and serving as a Papal Legate.

He mediated the feud between the Holy See and King Henry IV, opened his own hospital for lepers, and preached the First Crusade!

Hugh died in 1109 and was canonized just 11 years later.

St. Hugh the Great, pray for us!
