Obscure Saint of the Day: St. Vincent the Deacon

With the weekend fast approaching, Catholic Hipsters everywhere need to study up on their obscure saint knowledge, so that they can share with their soon-to-be-impressed pals as they crack open an equally obscure micorbrew.

With that in mind...

Happy Feast of St. Vincent the Deacon!

Born in Huesca, Spain, St. Vincent served as a Deacon until his martyrdom in Valencia.

The Emperor Diocletian had Vincent tortured because he refused to surrender his Holy Books. While waiting for his execution, he helped bring a prison guard to conversion!

St. Vincent died in 304, and is the patron of wine and vinegar makers.

St. Vincent, pray for us!
