Obscure Saint of the Day: St. Poppo

It's January 25, and you know what that means!

Happpy Feast of St. Poppo!!

Poppo was a Benedictine Abbot, and one of the foremost monastic leaders of his time.

He was born in Flanders and lived a fairly worldly life. He joined the military, avoided an arranged marriage, and thought he had his path all figured out.

After taking a pilgrimage to Rome and Jerusalem, however, the Lord let him know that He had other plans.

Poppo entered the Benedictines in 1006, and worked hard to bring back the monastic discipline that had gone missing.

Emperor St. Henry II considered Poppo to be one of his most trusted advisors.

Poppo died in 1048.

St. Poppo, pray for us!
