Obscure Saint of the Day: St. Mildgytha

Happy January 17!

Today is the feast of St. Mildgytha.

Mildgytha was a Benedictine nun who was the daughter of St. Ermenburga and the sister of Sts. Milburga and Mildred.

She received her veil from her mother on the Isle of Thanet and later became the abbess of a Northumbrian convent.

Mildgytha and her sisters have been linked to the three theological virtues. Milburga to faith, Mildred to charity, and Mildgytha to hope.

St. Mildgytha died in 676.

St. Mildgytha, pray for us.

And, I just have to ask, am I the only one who, upon reading the name of St. Ermenburga, thought of this:

Okay, good, just checking...
